I am a big news person. I have always been. I remember my dad picking up a copy of The New York Times every Sunday (back then, it was beautifully thick and heavy) and as soon as I was old enough to handle it, he started to share the newspaper’s sections with me. I loved it and that’s how I developed my love for information, stories, and journalism.
I do subscribe to news websites and magazines to get information (yes, let’s support journalism), and, of course, I listen to podcasts to get my daily news fix. These are the three daily news podcasts that I listen to regularly.
The Daily
The New York Times
This is my go-to podcast. I feel connected to my New York roots and also find out about what’s happening around the globe. The daily stories range from big news, (the Israel-Hamas war), to political news, (Trump vs Harris), to cultural stories (why is tipping so out of control?) The episodes are about 25 minutes long and also include a recap of the other big stories of the day. Super helpful.
The Big Take
Bloomberg
I like that this podcast is easy to listen to. The episodes are short, only about 10 minutes long, but they go deep on big international stories (with a business angle) and include expert reporting from Bloomberg. I do want to know what’s happening with the monkey pox outbreak and how it could have been prevented. I am also curious about what’s going on with those weight-loss drugs like Ozempic. Has the US gone crazy?
Global News Podcast
BBC Podcasts
I like the BBC and their love of good audio. This podcast does a great job of summarizing the day’s top stories. The podcast drops two episodes a day during the week, and one a day on the weekend, but here I pick and choose based on the lead story. I do listen when I see a topics that talk about Iran increasing its stockpile of uranium or the political and civil unrest that has shut down life in Bangladesh. Scary.
