Overcoming Age Anxiety: Best women-hosted podcasts for inner and outer beauty

When I moved to Germany, I started thinking a lot more about aging, about getting old. The World Health Organization says aging results from the impact of the accumulation of a wide variety of molecular and cellular damage over time. It leads to a gradual decrease in physical and mental capacity, a growing risk of disease, and ultimately death. Sounds awful, right? I don’t want to age or be aging. I don’t want to be in this phase ever, but it happened here in Germany. I turned 40.

I invested in a clinically proven face cream that reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation, but skincare products can’t entirely undo the natural aging process or revive the youthful glow that’s worsened by many factors, including stress. My age anxiety is aging me, so I turn to podcasts for help. Here’s what I listen to:

Podcasts with young, hip voices. For me, it’s all about having the right voice in my ear, and young voices help me to feel a bit cooler and in-the-know.

9 to 5ish – This a weekly career podcast by theSkimm, a digital media company founded by two millennial aged friends Carly Zakin and Danielle Weisberg, who first met while studying abroad in Rome. The podcast is great because they talk to female leaders who are not only smart but also super motivated and interesting. This is super motivating.

It’s Been a Minute – I am a big, serious news person, but I also like pop culture and host Brittnay Luse helps me make sense of the unpredictable cultural landscape in this podcast. I am happy with her style, which sometimes includes a bit of vocal fry. Yeah.

Podcasts by women who understand what it means to be 40. These are women who get it, who understand what I am going through when I wake up, look in the mirror, and see a new fine line around my mouth.

Forever35This podcast is all about the things that hosts Kate Spencer and Doree Shafrir do to take care of themselves in the wellness and beauty area. They talk about everything, including how to look well rested, the best waxing techniques, and the importance of self-care. PS: the shopping opportunities.

Just Jenny – This show has those raw, real, open conversations about the things that matter to me like family, relationships, work, and health. Plus, I am a big believer in the sister bond and so I love the fact that Jenny gives her sister (BFF) space each week as well. Sweet.
